Personnel Department

Banco di Caribe, founded in 1973, is the only 100% local bank in the Netherlands Antilles. Local not only in the sense of its shareholders but also of its staff and personnel.
We pride ourselves on the fact that our staff has had to develop most of the bank's financial products and services in house.

Our personnel is at the center of our organization and on a daily basis gives meaning to our mission statement, by providing professional financial services to our clientele.

At the end of November 2002, the bank employed in Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao, respectively 66, 9, and 184 persons, for a total of 259 employees. This is a growth of 11 employees when compared to the previous year.


In setting our course, management, in close consultation with various departments, has transformed our beliefs into the following statements:

- We at Banco di Caribe will provide professional and personal service to our clients at all times,
- We at Banco di Caribe strive to continuously improve ourselves as citizens as well as our communities in general,
- We at Banco di Caribe will always abide by our Code of Ethics,
- We at Banco di Caribe will maintain the highest levels of integrity, and thus give meaning to our slogan: “we honour your trust” or “nos ta honra bo confiansa”!


Management strongly believes in continuously training our staff and personnel. Accordingly, we provide in-house training and workshops covering several banking and management areas. During the course of this year 24 department heads, supervisors, and aspiring supervisors followed an IMD provided management course which will conclude in early 2003. Several other employees followed courses or workshops on Financial Management, Advanced Course on Supervision, Document Security, Anti-Money Laundering (MOT), Legal Secretary, NIBE banking courses, Modern Archiving Methods, and Information Technology.

The bank realizes that in order to provide meaning to the earlier mentioned statements, a healthy work environment must be present at all offices and branches. We therefore place a great deal of importance on issues relating to our work environment. That we are effectively doing this is apparent from the absenteeism figures for our organization. For 2001 the absenteeism percentages for Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao, were respectively, 3%, 1%, and 2%. These figures are amongst the lowest when compared to other same size business organizations.
In retrospect, we must say that in general our employees are very satisfied and happy. They are an empowered group of individuals that know that they are capable of making a difference and going the extra mile for the client.
